Swedish Participation list Mayors rapport
Prof Wangari Maathai, Kenya Vice Minister of the Environment, initiator of the Green Belt Movement and Nobel Price Laureate was the children’s Guest of Honor at the Roots Meeting, United Nations, Nairobi. – Trees cannot survive without roots and human beings cannot survive without roots! We must take good care of our roots! The Swedish Ambassador in Kenya, Mr. Bo Göransson and 10 mayors from Uganda, Kenya and Sweden dialogued with the 200 children by the Mother Tree at the United Nations and National Museums of Kenya. The first Preparatory Roots Meeting was a unique arena of making friends over many boundaries of age, professions, nations and cultures.
Mayors from the Lake Victoria Region declared that Children's Meeting Places will be established at other cities in the region and they will meet with children to have dialogues on regular basis. The wish is to continue the cooperation and networking in each of their cities/municipalities and between cities/municipalities in the Lake Victoria Region and the Baltic Sea Region.
As a follow up to the Preparatory Roots Meeting in Nairobi a delegation of 7 youths from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda joined a 10-days study-tour in Sweden (May).
