The group from Children’s Garden is talented in theatre, music and dance and they will present their performance "Our Life". The play is based on their own experiences how it is to live on the streets and in their local environment.

Silver Rose Award, Brussels, 15 October 2008

See Video from Silver Rose Award
Text from www.solidar.org

Kajsa Dahlstrom, President of the organisation commented that she felt like she was receiving the Nobel Prize and stated that “The Silver Rose Award will inspire [our] vision and work”.

Globetree illustrates a positive way to promote children’s rights and participation. In keeping children at the centre of their work, Globetree works on a scientific base, using creative expressions, such as theatre, drama and art, as the key tool to mobilise and support children and their teachers in efforts to improve their lives and living environment. The idea is that adults have to learn to see how social and physical environments influence children’s behaviour; acknowledging that children included in this environment will naturally join in with decision-making processes, whilst children left outside often become a risk to themselves and others. Globetree has several international achievements and has hosted their representations in countries all over the world with the aim of bringing people together and developing a group vision of the future with the participation of children from all horizons. Their latest project was the World Championship in Cooperation hosted in Kampala, Uganda in June 2008 which intended to facilitate dialogue in a cooperative rather than competitive spirit by allowing the youth to formulate and propose solutions to issues impacting them for action and implementation-commitments from the adult stakeholders.

Feasibility study of Children’s Village in Kenya
“Rights of the Child and Cooperation with Kenya Probation Authorities on improving rehabilitation activities in selected juvenile, borstal institutions and probation hostels".
Mr. Jacky Foo has on behalf of the Globetree done a feasibility study in Kenya for a Children’s Village with support from Forum Syd, Sweden. The study was made March 13 – April 2 in collaboration with Kenyan Ministry of Home Affairs.
The goal is to have a piece of land close to Nairobi where several organizations working with children at risk can cooperate and in that way reduce costs for food and heating, have rehabilitation and vocational activities, safety and security and efficient land use.
A proposal has been made to the Kenyan Ministry of Home Affairs to establish a Children’s Village and Vocational Centre (70 acres) at Lower Kabete. The Ministry has established a Kenya Committee in Oct. 2007. There is also a report called “Children on probation and their environment at Probation Centres in Kenya”.
Children’s Garden will develop a program which will test the ideas and suggestions which was expressed and concluded in the seminar. Children’s Garden will be a test arena to see in practice what works and what doesn’t work. The children were equal partners in the seminar and in the follow up program in Children’s Garden.

Vice President Ms Margot Wahlström and Vice President/Commissioner Mr Franco Fratini inaugurate the Childrens Meeting Place at European Commission in Brussels the 4th of March.

1-11th of January 2008
Meeting at Children’s Meeting Place, Simanjiro, Tanzania
At the very start of 2008 Globetree President Ms. Kajsa Dahlström, Managing Director of children’s and youth’s influence in Strängnäs and Globetree Representative Ms. Helena Edvinsson and Globetree representative Ms. Märta Velander were invited to Simanjiro District to meet and plan for a World Championship in Cooperation in Maasai land. Unfortunately, due to the crisis in the neighbour country Kenya, Ms. Kajsa Dahlström could not come. She is invited to come later on.
The meeting took place under the Maasai Mother Tree (Ficus Natalensis)
Around 200 people, young and old, gathered at the Children’s Meeting Place in Emboreet, Simanjiro district. A Committee was established that will work in Globetree spirit and Work for a WorldCiC. The committee was formed with members from each village, decision makers, school, women and children representatives.
Voices from Plenary Meeting:
“An International meeting here in Simanjiro would be for getting together; for strong friendship, for strengthening friendship, for people from different parts of the world to share and learn about new cultures. To see what we can have together and share. To give references to traditional environmental strategies. To find solutions for environmental protection.
To find the crossroads where we meet each other.”
 “…Meeting with a connection to human roots…”
“…Thanks to Globetree nowadays most children are sent to school. No drop outs and low absence at the lessons. Now the grown ups listen to children needs and now the children can ask.”
“The Maasai culture is strong and has not allowed women and children to join meetings, but now there is a change”
“… here in Simanjiro our guests can also learn our culture”

2007-12
Chrismas at Children’s Garden
During Christmas over 200 children and visitors came together to celebrate Christmas at Children’s Garden in Nairobi, Kenya. Christmas became a wonderful celebration, thanks to a separate fund-raising organised by Ms. Ann Bergerlind teacher at Katarina Norra Schol, Stockholm. Goats, good food, sweets, decorations, presents and over 100 pairs of shoes made a great Christmas celebration. They all send their warm thanks to all sponsors!

Kajsa Dahlström, presiden Globetree: “We had a lot of fun! We danced, sang, played together. Many Swedes came and all joined for a Lucia procession. One of the goats joined the Lucia and was nicely decorated. A special Shoe Song and dance was composed by Robert Wawesh and his brother. It was performed by all children on the basket field before they received their shoes.
For me this year became extra special because just before Christmas, Jackson Gacegi was released from the Youth Prison in Mombasa after 1 year and 8 months. His special wish was to come to Children’s Garden and get carpenter education. Jackson had a tough time in prison and the Christmas in Children’s Garden marked a change of his life”.

Preperations for WorldCiC in Kampala
In the first two weeks of August the President of the Globetree, Ms. Kajsa Dahlström made a follow-up trip to Kenya and Uganda. During this trip the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Kenyan Ministry of Home Affairs (MOHA) in principle endorsed the establishment of the Children's Village Project and promised to assist in providing access to land in Kenya.
Participants in the meeting were Director of Administration, Mrs. Emily Gatuguta, the Director of the Department of Probation Services and After Care and his colleagues, Director of the Department of Children's Services, the Chief Finance Officer and his colleagues and Mrs. Mercy Musomi of the Girl Child Network.
Other meetings were held with H.W. Deputy Mayor of Kampala and Head of Education in both Kampala and Entebbe together with Head Teachers, NGO’s and others who are in the Committee for the WorldCiC 08.

Nairobi Meetings
In Nairobi meetings were held with the Globetree partners in the Pillars of Hope.
The Children’s Garden is developing by leaps and bounds. The activity has been moving from the small metal sheet houses to the big house in Kawangare which allow space for board, lodging and education for more than 200 children. New toilets have been installed as the old ones collapsed. The program was visited together with artist and producer of music Mr. Robert W. Kiboy and his wife Ms. Lisa Forsberg in order to find new creative ways of art. Children’s Garden won a special competition this year. They were secnd in a National Competition between schools for Art.
The Baby Hope Centre was visited in its new premises where Ms. Jessica Bernestrom and her mother Monica volunteered to help for 14 days. Ms. Jane Ruvaga has now 10 abandoned babies and recently sent a SOS that the long period of rain makes it impossible to dry material nappies and the babies became sick in the cold. They have now a new washing machine and radiators in the children’s room.
Ms Jane Ramu has for a long time had problems with the school principal to accept her teaching of the deaf and blind children. It came to a point where the principal closed her classrooms. The parents took action and media raised the problem. The department is now opened again and another positive result of the attention was that Jane now has a chief position for the education of deaf and blind children.
