Andy:

I think the approach of suggesting ideas on ecological engineering to Foresight for funding is a good idea.  We are working on a scheme to help develop application areas for sensors in landfill management.  Perhaps living machines will be part of the future waste management landscape that will come on line to replace landfill sites in the near future.  that is the role of sensors in these machines?  This would be an interesting Foresight research topic, and one which CEST would be happy to undertake, with any other interested parties.
