Hello Jacky,

>I wish to know more about what CC is doing with the wastewater
and solids?
Answer: Waste water - nothing. Solids converted to livestock feed.
The system at CC is as follows:
Water from a near by creek is pumped into a filtration system to a
chlorinating unit via a reservoir. From the chlorinating unit the clean
water is transferred via two outlets - one to the poultry houses for
use as
drinking water by the birds and the other to the abattoir. At the abattoir
the use of water starts from the stunning process to the spin chiller.
Other sources of water includes water for washing equipment and facilities.
At the final stage or end of the day CC is left with approximately
3000
tons of solids made up of the following - feet, head, feathers, gut
and gut
contents from 25,000 broiler chickens plus between 318200 to 454600
litres
of wash water.
In most cases the solids and fats are removed gravimetrically and sent
to
the rendering plant for the production of feather and offal meal for
use in
CC feed mill. The rest of the clear effluent is discarded into an old
unused pit as waste.
You can initiate a discussion with William to get more information on
the
above.
