DEAR SIR/MADAM,
we are currently organising, jointly with the University of Padova,
the Technical Universities of Hamburg-Harburg and Denmark and
CISA, Environmental Sanitary Engineering Centre, "Sardinia 2001 -
Eighth International Waste Management and Landfill Symposium" -
to be held in Cagliari from 1-5 October 2001.
The International Landfill Symposia in Sardinia were established in
order to make ideas and experiences in this field readily available
world-wide. The Symposia rapidly became the International
Reference Forum, where leading experts present their research
activities and experiences and discuss new concepts and
technologies. The Symposia have witnessed and contributed to the
development of modern waste management strategies such as the
integrated waste management hierarchy, which considers
landfilling to be the final, indispensable, option after
minimisation, recovery of materials and recovery of energy.
The seventh Symposium was held in 1999, in the traditional venue
of the Forte Village Complex at S. Margherita di Pula (Cagliari),
with an attendance of 1100 delegates from 44 different countries.
The eighth Symposium will be held in October 2001. The main
focal points will be: waste management strategies, waste
characterisation and collection, recycling, waste treatment before
and after landfilling, design, operation, aftercare problems and old
landfill remediation as well as new developments of landfilling with
respect to barrier systems engineering, leachate treatment and gas
management.
I inform you that it is possible for you to write a paper which
will
be examined by our Scientific Commitee.
An extended abstract -at least one, but no more than two full
pages- should reach the Organization no later than 15 November
2000. Abstracts must show the full title of the paper, the names
and affiliations of all authors, e-mail address and full mailing
address of the leading author.
The abstract must clearly describe the content of the presentation
and its basis (detailed case study, discussion of experience from
practice, preliminary research data, completed research not
previsiously presented at Sardinia, review of literature,
administrative initiatives and regulations, etc).
Each leading author may submit no more than 3 abstracts; the
sender will be considered as the corrisponding person with the
organization.
The official language of the Symposium will be English. All papers
will be written and presented in English. Accepted papers will
entitle the leading author to receive a 30% reduction on the
entrance fee.
Papers will be selected following evaluation by an international
panel of referees. Acceptance of papers will be communicated to
the leading author by the end of December 2000. If notification has
not been received by early January 2001, Authors should check
with the Organizers in case mail disruptions have occured. Full
papers (maximum 8 pages in lenght) should be addressed to the
organizers and be received no later than 30 March 2001.
There is no particular letter type indication for the abstracts which
