To Dr. Manfred Fehr, co-authors and the Participants
Today we come to the last day of this paper discussion on the "Landfill
diversion of biodegradables seen and solved as an administrative challenge".
The issue of landfill management and diversion of wastes to landfills
are
serious concerns in many countries. In small island developing states
where
land is scarce and where the ground water table is often high, landfilling
may not be an appropriate alternative to waste management. In other
countries
where landfilling is used, there is a great concern over the reduction
and
diversion of biodegradables and the capture of the greenhouse gas -
methane
gas - generated.
Manfred Fehr and co-authors have provided us with further insights on
some
administrative challenges related to the diversion of biodegradables
as well
as some useful data on the composition of wastes in Brazil.
On behalf of the Planning Group and the Organizers of the MFA Internet
Conference, I wish to thank Dr. Fehr and co-authors for their presentation
as
well as their cooperation in responding to the questions and comments
from
the audience.
Cheers
