Rabbit House at Stephjoy Girls High School, Limuru

The rabbit house is 13 meters long and has 13 cages of different sizes. It serves as the 1st phase for the targeted production of 25 kg of meat per month. Current facility is constructed to produce 10 kg of meat per month.

Stephjoy High School is a private secondary school for girls. It moved into its new premises in Limuru in Feb 2008. Limuru is 30 km from Nairobi downtown and it has a rural and agricultural environment.  SJHS currently has 325 boarders and hopes to develop further in the future years to have a capacity for 720 girls. A new building is already under constructed to provide hall and computer rooms. Demand of meat is about 23 kg beef (@200 KES/kg) for 325 girls on Sundays. Meat is served once a week. The compound is 5 acres in size and 1½ acres is allotted for growing vegetables for the school kitchen. SJHS has additional cultivated farm land (~1 acre) which is leased from its neighbors. There are two farm workers and 3 casual workers. Farm management is very good and already is in its 2nd crop cultivation since Feb 2008.

Vulnerable Children
