Rabbit
House at Maria Immaculata Education Center, Kahawa West, Nairobi![]() A dis-used chicken house (pic on the right; 3 x 5.4 m) at the Maria Immaculata Education Center was converted into the rabbit house. A path was cut through the middle of chicken house so that rabbit cages could be constructed on both sides (picture 3, 06 Sept). 16 cages were constructed (8 on each side) and each cage can contain 2-3 adult rabbits. The objective is to produce at least 20 kg of meat every month for a rabbit meal for 300 students once a month.
26 rabbits were purchased (27 Sept 2008) from the Children's Garden and the Nairobi Children's Remand Home. ACTIVITIES On the 28th Sept. children who take care of rabbits at Children's Garden Center (Kawangware) visited the new rabbit house at Kahawa West and to meet and share what they have learnt with the 4 children (2 girls and 2 boys who were assigned to care for the rabbits) from Maria Immaculata Education Center. Each group of kids has an adult to consult with if they have problems.
Training - Visit to the National Rabbit Breeding Centre,
Ngong.(11 Oct, 2008)
It was a very special trip for the 4 children when they saw the large adult rabbits and the very well-organised vegetable gardens. They wanted to do all that they saw as they have now seen what could be done.
